Discovering The Soft Slab

Examine the characteristics of working with thick and thin soft slabs by draping, wrapping and folding functional forms. We will discuss organic and architectural resolutions while considering pottery elements such as edges, handles, and feet. Simple presentations such as nesting will be explored.

Ceramics- Beginning/Intermediate Ceramics

This class allows for a variety of skill levels. Two lessons per week will be presented. One will focus on the basics (centering, throwing simple forms on the wheel and glazing) and the other on intermediate techniques ( combined forms, advanced glazing etc.)

  Ceramics - Throwing on the Wheel

This is your opportunity to play in the mud, have fun and learn about clay! This class is an introduction to the fundamentals of working with clay, centering, throwing and trimming cylinders, bowls and plates. Demonstrations on handles, attachments, decorating and glazing will also be covered. Experienced students are welcome to continue developing their work on the wheel.

Wheel Throwing - Hand Building - Sculpture - Glaze. All options are open and all abilities welcomed.  This class is built around students' goals.

Ceramics- Advanced Wheelwork

Pre-requisite Ability to center 4lbs and pull up 4 inches
Have you always wanted to throw large forms—bowls, vases and platters? This class will focus on the creation of those forms while “saving” your back, wrists and shoulders. Also, techniques on decorating and glazing these large forms will be covered.

   Ceramics - Sculpture

This course is designed to expand the knowledge of the sculptural ceramic world. Various techniques and artists will be explored to inspire students to create their own pieces of sculpture.

Ceramics- Gas Reduction

Pre-requisite: Must have taken at least one beginning ceramics class.

Learn how to fire an Alpine updraft gas kiln. Class is for experienced students interested in the process of reduction firing. Students must be able to participate in three all day Sunday firings (students will share by doing 3 hour shifts) during the term.

Portrait Bust in Clay

Create a ¾ life-size bisque-ware portrait bust of yourself or anyone else. Learn techniques to create life-like details, accurate proportions, and realistic textures of hair, clothes and skin. Explore a variety of representational and abstract examples by masters. Enjoy 2 open lab passes to complete your sculpture after the workshop if needed.

Friday and Saturday October 24, 25. Friday 6 pm - 9 pm, Saturday 9 am - 4 pm with a break for lunch.
